Darling Diva Polish: The Opera House – Swatches

Another Darling Diva Polish? Why yes. She has lots of amazing polishes. Really. 😀

DDP The Opera House

Super packed with glitter, very dabby to apply, but super stunning to look at. One coat over one coat of Kleancolor White, Kleancolor Fast Dry top coat.

Gold holographic large glitters, gold glitter, large and medium white (ghost!) matte hexes in a white jelly base with plenty of shimmer. Just gorgeous.

Easy to apply even though you have to poke some into position, dry time is average, smooth with one coat of top coat, no curling glitters.

I put a few drops of polish thinner (Seche Restore) into this, just to try and make it a bit easier to apply, and to layer over itself. I want that gorgeous translucent effect, and it’s soooo close to being there for me. I think this should do it!

Bottle shot, showing those gorgeous holographic gold glitters!

Love the colour scheme, and looking forward to trying this one again.

Have a great day,

Ami

Nail Mail WOW’s from Ninja Polish, plus other Nail Mail Stuff :)

I received an almost-unexpected surprise in my mail today, a parcel from Ninja Polish! I didn’t order it, there’s a back story. The first, not-so-good part can be found here, but it’s not big drama. Basically, almost a year ago, a polish I bought was broken in transit, and I emailed to tell them. Breakages happen, we all know this. It’s sad, but it’s life. A few weeks ago, after many attempts on my part to communicate, I heard from Rhonni, in a really sweet email. My emails were lost in transit, but now found – and she was wonderful to talk too. Great customer service. She mentioned a few days ago that she was sending a replacement polish to the broken one, which I really did NOT expect: all I wanted was to alert them to the issue. And today, in the mail, was this:

Up Colors Iris, Ninja Polish Eye Candy, Ninja Polish Alexandrite

OH WOW. Replacing Up Colors Azul Iris was over and above duty, as far as I was concerned. But there is Ninja Polish Eye Candy, and Alexandrite! Sqquuueeeeeeeeee!!

So, people – go buy stuff from Ninja Polish. They’re good people. Thank you, good people. And thank you, Rhonni!

Also in todays exciting mail was my recent splurges from Gracie Lou:

Ozotic 506 and 504, and Orly Rock-It. I had to. They’re being discontinued. And they’re beautiful.

A few days ago I received my purchases from Head2Toe Beauty:

China Glaze Make a Spectacle, CG Cast A Spell, CG Kalahari Kiss, and Essie Matte About You (how I’ve missed you, Matte!)

China Glaze and Essie – I accidentally clicked on two Kalahari Kisses, when I wanted the Lion named glitter one. Brain has just died. Can’t recall name. argh. But, anyway! Pretttyyyy! And Color Clubs, including some of the new Halo Hues collection, SQUEE!

Color Clubs: Ho Ho Holly, Holo-Graphic, Blue Heaven and Harp On It

Wow, right? But notice something? Color Club Harp on It, and Blue Heaven, are IDENTICAL. And they shouldn’t be, from all the swatches I’ve seen.

Which is which? One does look a bit different here, but in real life they’re both silver…

I’m pretty sure these bottles were mis-labelled at the factory, because the labels are right..

I’ve emailed Head2Toe, because I really wanted Blue Heaven, and not sure how to sort it out.

And over the weekend was this haul – a really guilty splurge from Darling Diva Polish. She had a limited run of 5 polishes for US $25 – mystery bottles. This is how much I love her polishes, I took the chance and bought one.

Darling Diva Polishes: Vetiver, X-Rated, Penny!!!Penny!!!Penny!!!, Cherry Jubilee, and Queen of Hearts

I am SO glad I did.

Well, actually looking at all of these is giving me palpitations: I have SO many I have yet to try on! I’ve been steadily going through them, and have a large backlog of partially completed blog posts, but I NEED to wear and appreciate all of these, I can’t just swatch them and be done. It may take me some time, be patient with me 🙂

However, if anyone out there in internetville has anything they DESPERATELY want to see soon, let me know and I’ll see what I can do! My nails for you, gentlebeings.

Have a great day

DDP Release the Kraken v2 – swatches and layering

Another gorgeous polish by Darling Diva Polish; this is Release The Kraken version 2 . These photos here show three coats on its own, which is a teeny bit streaky, but really only if you stick your nose on it, it’s not at all noticeable in real life. Medium dry time, great wear time. It’s grey! I thought it’d be white, but its a very pale dove grey.

Inside, indirect sunlight.

I’m not going to try and list all the glitters: if you’re like me, your eyes cross at big lists of colours and shapes and you won’t read them anyway :D. This required a bit of dabbing to spread around the glitters equally, but not too much. I finished it off with Kleancolor Fast Dry Top coat, and it was nice and smooth to the touch with only the one top coat.

Macro

Pretty, hey?!

And inside, under a bright light:

Then I layered it over Kleancolour White – one coat of that and two of RTK: here’s the white I was looking for. See? A two-in-one polish! The gorgeous jelly grey, AND a white multi coloured glitter polish!

Love it.

Have a great day

Darling Diva Polish: Chrome Job Swatches

This is another super polish from Carrie of Darling Diva Polish: Chrome Job. This is from her Battlestar Galactica collection; the name is slang for the Cylons – robot people whom the human people are battling with.

Chrome Job is a glitterbomb in a clear base, and I immediately thought of Megan from Two Lacquered Girls when I saw it 😀 It’s multi-shaped silver (hexes, bars and tiny glitter, mostly), large gunmetal grey squares, small black hexes and matte red squares. Because it’s in a clear base it’s made for layering, and I used  Zoya Dannii because a) I thought it’d suit and b) I already had it on. Bonus! 😀

Love the red glitters against the purple base! Looks opulent, somehow.

Love it. This is two coats of Chrome Job over two coats of Dannii. You don’t need to fish for these glitters, you need to scrape your brush and put some back in the bottle, this polish is PACKED. There’s a bit of dabbing needed to cover all of the nail, but nothing strenous. I finished with a thick layer of Kleancolor Fast Dry to cover the glitters.

One thing I noted was the large gunmetal grey squares have a slight curve to them: I’ve read of curling glitter and I wouldn’t say these CURL, but they are curved. It was easy enough to flick them over so they go with the curve of my nail though – but if I missed one the edges did stick up. And then I pick at them.. don’t do that 😉 Also the bar glitters ate some top coat and stuck up in little frizzy fringes, so I’d recommend two coats of top coat for this one.

Just for fun I layered it over Misa Grey Matters – I want to see ALL the colours, so light tones work best I think. I’d also try it over light green and blue, and perhaps pink or yellow… it would be interesting! This looks great, too. Two coats Grey Matters, one coat Chrome Job, no top coat…

And two coats Chrome Job plus Kleancolor Fast Dry top coat, over the Grey Matters.

Inside lighting…

Macro..

Loved it. It does take a while to dry, so put this on when you know you can read or interweb surf for awhile, then enjoy the insane glittery goodness from this! This photo was taken after 24 hours, one of the larger glitters started to peel and stick out: I think it’s a good idea to put a lot of top coat on to stop this from happening.

But look. Just look. It’s AWESOME. It’s blingy, and out there, and perfectly reminiscent of robots. I love it 🙂

Outside, full sun 🙂

Have a good day

Darling Diva Polish: Bitches Have Birthdays – Swatches

Check this out! This is Bitches Have Birthday, from Darling Diva Polish – her Etsy store is here. She ships internationally, packaging is very good, and really fast now too. 2 weeks, I believe, from order to arrival on the other side of the planet. Pretttty good indeed.

Darling Diva Polish – Bitches Have Birthdays

This polish is GORGEOUS! Seriously. These photos are two thin coats over a PVA glue base coat, with Orly In A Snap top coat.

There are a few bald areas – that’s user error – the jelly base is super smooth, but I have to remember to go back and get the spots just behind the butterflies etc  to avoid the ‘polish shadow’ of the larger structures 🙂

It makes me a bit confused because it’s a nice, subtle, grown up colour and the glitter in it is so fun and sparkly – but it all works. Work appropriate Crazy Glitter Polish? I thinks I has it on my nails! Love it. Couldn’t think how I could love it more.

I’d describe this as a rose pink (though in the sunlight it looks more barbie pink) jelly base with blue, green, purple, holographic pink and gold glitters, and then the fun starts. Those are all small/medium sized, and then there are multi-coloured hearts, butterflies, diamonds and more. The glitters are loaded in here, there was absolutely no fishing required, as a matter of fact I was scooping some glitters onto other nails!

See? I have two butterflies AND a diamond aligned along one nail. There would have been three but I stuck it on my middle nail.

Look – maybe it’s the natural flight pattern of Polish Butterflies -all in a row 😀

Dry time was super fast, and although it’s not glassy smooth, it’s not gritty or annoying. Another coat of topcoat or a thicker one first then a quick dry would make it pretty darn smooth indeed.

For my own interest, I layered one coat of Bitches Have Birthday over Mode Sweetness (2 coats), and then added one coat of Kleancolor Madly Matte. I used Madly Matte because it’s  a lovely thick polish, and it’s never matted anything before.

And guess what? It matted this! Hehehe. It’s a slow drying polish, and so I munted most of my polish before I took these photos, so these are what I have left to show 😀

I didn’t want to take this off. And I have more of hers I’m dying to try. First World Problems, how I love thee 😀

Anyway, I’m not normally a ‘pink polish’ person. Nor butterflies. But this polish is the most awesome contrast between girly and blingy, subtle and sparkly, young and not as young – but I can tell you something, it’s not for kids (although I think they’d love it, but they’re not getting mine!). If you’re thinking about getting it… my vote would be for getting it. I’m sure glad I did 😀

Have a lovely day

Todays Amazing Nail Mail..

Look what turned up today! Four polishes from Darling Diva Polish, and a gorgeous Jordana polish from Del from Domestic Minxes (check out their blog!). So exciting – I *may* already have tried the Jordana on… watch this space for a quick swatch!

Have a wonderful day

Miki No 18 and Layered with Darling Diva Polish Witchy Woman

A recent purchase from a Unichem Pharmacy in Palmerston North – this is Miki No.  18. These gorgeous polishes are $4 each or 2 for $6 (from memory), and are very good quality. They are a mini bottle, but not a tiny – this is 7 ml.

The snappily named Number 18 is a dark teal with gorgeous teal and silver shimmer. These photos are two coats of No. 18, it covers really well and the dry time was fast.

I decided to add a glitter, and I really wanted to try Darling Diva Polish Witchy Woman out again – over a polish that’s not black. It’s stunning over black, but that’s a no-brainer: as the base jelly is so sheer I thought I should be able to wear it over other colours, too. And look!

I was right.. this is one thin coat of Witchy Woman over Miki No. 18, with a top coat (Orly In A Snap). This combination dried fast, lasted quite some time before wearing or chipping, and looked fantastic 😀

You can get Darling Diva Polish from her Etsy store here – and she ships internationally!

Have a fabulous day

Rare & Radiant holographized with Dreamy top coat

So, there I was, staring at my nails with their lovely covering of China Glaze’s Rare & Radiant. And thinking ‘pretttyyyy”… need to put Dreamy by Darling Diva Polish over this, to see what it looks like as a holographic polish. Good plan, 99!

I loved this. This has one thin coat of Dreamy over the 2 coats of Rare & Radiant. It did lose some of the dramatic colour shift, although there was still some shifting – mostly from slightly green tinged gold to a deeper bronze. Really pretty!

A touch more silvery toned now, thanks to Dreamy. Sooo pretty!

Here’s some photo spam…. there’s not a lot more to be said about this polish.

Well, this picture has to be worth a few words, right?!

It does still have that visible deeper colour towards the nail tips when moved.

Silver to gold shift  – that’s a great side effect from the Dreamy over the Rare & Radiant.

And the inside, looking more bronze, photo.

Have a great day

Day 10: (Extreme) Gradient Nails

Day 10 of the 31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Gradient Nails.

I did this mani specifically as a gradient, using every polish, in order, from my Mini Kleancolor Metallics set (apart from Aqua, which I gave to my mother). I didn’t think ahead to how rainbow-ish they looked – and that, as a gradiant – it’s pretty extreme. Hey, nail polish as an extreme sport – it could take off 😀

Here they are! This is one coat of all of them, starting with Orange, then I sponged on gradient layers to Green, Sapphire, Fuschia (which looked pink until I topcoated it and then it looked purple), and then Black on the tips. This was such a quick and easy manicure, and I loved looking at it, although the fact that the green stipe is wider than the rest did bother me a touch. So I slapped OCD Ami and just ignored her from then on 😀

I take my photos in the raaaiiinnnnn … 😀

The top coat was Orly In a Snap, and because there were so few coats and it was sponged on (using less polish than normal), it dried super fast and lasted well. I received quite a few comments and compliments on my ‘colourful!’ nails 🙂

And then, being me, I holographised it with Dreamy by Darling Diva Polish (the spectraflair top coat), and it looked like this…

Which I also loved. 😀

Have a great day!

Day 08: Metallic Nails

Day 8 of the 31 Day Nail Polish Challenge: Metallic Nails!

I was still wearing China Glaze Rare & Radiant with a top coat of Dreamy by Darling Diva Polish. This looked, to me, quite metallic – but I knew that I wanted mooorreee 😀

So, I dug out my metallic nail stickers, and cut one too small (I have crazy skills with cutting, I tells ya) but slapped it on my index fingernail anyway, and cut a little bit to use as a tip on my little fingernail. The other two nails I tipped with Kleancolor Sandstone, a fairly complementarily-toned colour, and quite metallic.

Apart from the fact I hate these nail strips, I liked the effect! I really love the proper nail polish strips, but whooooo are they expensive for what they are. Sure, $20 is a bargain for one nail: if you get professional manicures normally, which I do not. And yes, they last for a long time. They do. But, I  like to change my nail polish a LOT. So, not so worth it for me. Maybe if I ever go on a holiday! These silly metal ones though – they don’t stick at the tips, they don’t bend properly without creasing, and just generall they p*ss me off. Shame, I love the metal look and the skulls. 🙂

Have a great morning!
