Just a super quick note to say Merry Christmas to those who (on this side of the world) are celebrating it, or (on the other side) are about to. And a happy holidays to everyone, everywhere, regardless of what holiday you celebrate! I hope the dramas are minimal and educational or amusing, the people you are around are lovely to each other in the main, that thoughtful presents or food is shared. While I’m at it, food, peace, health and goodwill to everyone. Because it’s the dream.
It’s my birthday, too. Just thought I’d share. Christmas Day, every year. When I was a child we didn’t celebrate Christmas, so it was all my birthday. But now I do (well, more as a Summer Solstice / family get together / eat too much food thing) and its great 😀 As you get older birthdays seem less important so this way I still get to have an exciting day, made more special by sharing it with family and friends 🙂 So, Merry Holidays however it happens!
Wishing everyone a very merry happy – whether you have a special day to celebrate or not, whatever you call any celebrations, and wherever you are.
Please be safe, and have an enjoyable, exciting, relaxing, amazing time free of drama (as much as possible) and full of merriment.
It’s also my birthday today! 35 years old today, and loving it.
Love to you all, strength to get past the silly parts of the season, and looking forward to hearing your stories!
Have a great day/holiday!
Week two! My nails are NOT GROWING FAST ENOUGH. Grrr. First World Problems. I have been sent some amazing polishes to review, and I can’t do justice to them with my little broken claws, but in the meantime I am having fun glitzing them up.
This is Darling Diva Polish Cherry Jubilee – three coats, and Misa BREAKneck top coat.
Really super pretty!
Then I mungled two fingernails and repainted those with a really nasty jelly sandwich: I used Nfu Oh 008 as the base (2 coats), then one coat of L.A. Girl Glitter Animate and a green franken, then another coat of Nfu Oh 008: all was going well until the green franken, because it had a green base colour in it and it KILLED this. Green glitter would have been nice. This looks mouldy.
Moving along rapidly, I then layered Cherry Jubilee over Kleancolor White, 2 coats, and 2 coats of Cherry Jubilee.
I prefer this one on it’s own, the white of Cherry Jubilee is perfect and translucent and soft without being see-through
Next mani: This is another franken of mine – which needs thinner and Nail Pattern Boldness Glitter Food, I think. It was very lumpy, and I fluctuated between hating this, and quite liking the lizard skin look.
The base polish was China Glaze Solar Flare – those gold hexes, in a clear base. I added lilac shimmer, and red and green fine glitter. It really needs a mid-size (between the tiny and the gold) glitter, but I don’t have one.
Next! This is China Glaze Ring in the Red – as Christmassy a polish as can be easily found. This was really quite hard to apply! Patchiness and balding happened – I recommend leaving quite a bit of time between coats. It was also a bit pinker based than I expected, but I love the glittery-ness. This is three coats. Quite a smooth finish for a super glitter!
Then, too much of a good thing being never enough, I added one coat of L.A. Glitter Addict Animate. Mmmm that’s what I wanted. Yes.
You bored yet? Hope not, there’s more! This is three coats of China Glaze Ring in the Red, and Darling Diva Polish Mitochondral Eve. BLINGY! Christmas salad.
I alternated between really adoring the colourfulness, and thinking it was a bit garish… but meh, it’s the silly season. I like being silly.
Then, as a change of pace from the garish I tried this combo, and really liked it! It was rich and festive, without being too over the top. This is two coats of China Glaze Riveter Rouge – a nice rich auburn red with copper and silver mini glitters, with one thin coat of OPI Serving Up Sparkle over the top, finished with Misa BREAKneck (my new favourite top coat)
And last was a series… first up, Nfu Oh 124 – a lovely dark shimmery green which was more sheer than I anticipated. Three coats, no top coat. A bit hard to get the layers even, hence the different tones of green!
Then a coat of Nfu Oh 039, a super cute green-blue shift flaky
And finally, for extra festive fun, a thin coat of Darling Diva Polish Holiday Lights, topped with Misa BREAKneck.
Up close and sparkly…
That’s a lot of polish changes in one week. I had loads of fun, and almost all of these had a PVA glue base coat, so I could just peel it off, and start another one. Which I did frequently, as you can tell 😀
Have a great day
Del from Domestic Minxes tagged me in this fun series – all about enjoying Winter. In December. Which it’s not for me, so I’ll try and remember winter. Which won’t be hard, seeing as it is SNOWING on the hills behind us. WTF? 😀
Favourite Winter Nail Polish: Er, I don’t do seasonal polishes, I do what-I-feel-like-at-the-time polishes. I have, however, ordered a few super Christmassy polishes and am looking forward to a month of Xmas nails! I think China Glaze Blue Years Eve is one of my all time favourites for the cooler months, along with all the vampy deep reds and shimmery purples. China Glaze Angel Wings, purchased very recently, has shot right up the list of ‘wintery’ favourites, too!
Favourite Winter Lip Product. Winter or summer, it’s lip balm. I love all lip products, yes, and would find it hard to pick a favourite lipbalm, even. I do like A’dors lipbalm though, it’s very sheer but stays moisturising for a long time.
Most Worn Winter Clothing Piece: Definitely the wool jacket my sister gave me. It’s nice! And I get very cold.
Most Worn Winter Accessory: Shoes! You almost never see me without shoes in winter. I also like scarves, and my fluffy hats.
Favourite Winter Scent/Candle. Lush Vanillary – mixed with a bit of Lush Orange Blossom. I love Vanillary, sometimes it seems a bit sweet so I mix it with something else, but it’s lovely and warm. I also bought a heap of sample vials from Dorian & Dahl, and I love so many of those! I also bought a chocolate scented candle from New World (supermarket) and it’s awesome! I don’t burn it, but it makes my living room smell like yummy chocolate. Actually, I dusted it a week ago and there’s a bite mark in it. Kids. Heh heh heh
Favourite Winter Beverage. Mmm. Coffee? I like coffee. I think though, I really look forward to mulled wine or buttered beer in winter. YUM. It doesn’t happen often, but it only happens in winter…
All-Time Favourite Christmas Movie. I’ve never watched one. Yeah. Whoops?
Favourite Christmas/holiday song. Whatever I can sing along with! Again, most of them I don’t know. Before anyone throws things at me, I’ve only really been doing ‘Christmas’ for a handful of years – seriously, for the last 2. There are good reasons, but I am starting to really get into the whole concept of chosing a time to have a positive celebration, so this is fun 🙂
Favourite Holiday Food/Treat. Christmas cake! With LOADS of almond icing. YUS. Strawberries and cream. And the cake.
Favourite Christmas Decoration This Year: My tree! I bought one last year, for the first time. It’s plastic, but I like it. I did have a pine tree in a planter that I brought inside in December, but it died for some reason, so I bought a big black fake tree. And I love it… am going to set it up tomorrow and am really excited about that!
What is at the top of my Wishlist this Year? Nail Polish! And vouchers for cool places like Lush etc. If Mr Santa bought me jewellery that would be nice, too. I need a watch…and world peace. That’d be bloody nice.
What are your plans for the Holidays? I’m having my family over for Christmas, and that’ll be nice! Hopefully we’ll get away for some day trips, otherwise I’m thinking plenty of swims in the river and just generally having a lazy summer sounds nice to me 🙂
And here’s an It’s Not Winter Here photo – this was a floral arrangement by my eldest son – he brings me buttercups. I love it 😀 And then he arranged them for me in my cup… so pretty!
Have a great day, and happy December!
